Kindness Is Not Weakness

Not to toot my own horn or anything, but I often get a label called “overly nice”. Huh?! Does anyone else ever get this and just think, “is it possible to be too nice”? I agree, there are certain situations and scenarios where “niceness” should go right out the freaking window but…on a daily basis? Is it wrong to be too kind?

“Character is how you treat those who can do nothing for you”

I learned a long time ago that smiling, encouraging, and uplifting others makes a difference. You never know what another person is going through or what hardships they could be facing. As cliche as it may sound, a kind gesture or comment can go a long way. A very long way.

But what some don’t understand is that kindness is not weakness. A person that is kind shouldn’t be walked over. They shouldn’t be overlooked, ignored, or deemed too fragile. If anything, being a good person…a nice person…makes me feel inspired and motivated. I feel more confident and more willing to engage with others. I communicate well with my coworkers and love to meet new people. Being nice, gives me this glowing belief that I made an impact. If I can change the direction of one person’s bad day, than that is proof I am living a life with purpose.

“The world is filled with nice people, if you can’t find one be one”

So next time you are having a bad day, appreciate the people who are trying to make it better and spread good vibes even when you’re not feeling them. Things will get better, life will go on, and tomorrow is a bright new day! What you put into the universe is sure to come back around.

Why Date Nights Are Important

When I got married to my husband, part of me thought our relationship would change. I knew plenty of couples who warned me of marriage because to some…marriage meant more responsibility, accountability, and planning. Friends told us we’d forget about making time for one another and that date nights would slowly slip away. One year of being married later, I can vouch to say all of those things were untrue!

Yes, marriage is hard work and sometimes the hubs and I lose track of what’s going on around us. That doesn’t mean our relationship isn’t strong or moving at a slower pace than before. In fact, we’ve made a bigger effort than ever to make sure our time together is well spent. Which is what led me to write this post!

Time To Talk

Sometimes the only time I have to talk with my husband about important life details is when we’re out to dinner. Get off your phone when you’re with each other and speak. Plan for your next vacation, talk about the bills you have due for the week, or just ask questions about each other’s day!

Experiencing New Things

One of the best things about “date days” is finding new restaurants to try or fun experiences. A relaxing couple hours with your spouse or loved one makes all the difference if you’re always on the go and away. Learn something new together, go on an adventure to a new place, or find an activity you two typically don’t do as a couple!

We recently discovered a new restaurant in our area that offers special brunch on Sunday afternoons. It was quiet, tasty, and we decided to splurge on a sit-down place that offered new flavors! A date idea you might enjoy with your significant other might be a night out at a restaurant grand opening or any grand opening for that matter! Stepping out of your comfort zone can be a good thing!

Giving Undivided Attention

Circling back to having time to talk. It’s equally as important to be giving each other undivided attention, free of distractions. Some of the things I’m referring to is the phone, T.V, or work duties. All of that needs to go out out the window on date nights!

Listening

We can all guess that when we speak, we want others to listen. Make sure you’re really taking in the conversation between you and your significant other. What’s the point of going on a date if one person is zoned out the entire time? This is why most of the “dates” my husband and I go on consist more of a social atmosphere rather than let’s say…a movie!

Even though life has been crazy lately, I wouldn’t want to do it with anyone else. Getting a little sappy in this post so if you made it to the end, thank you! I hope you find the value in date nights like I do!

Reaching Goals In The New Year – Hello 2018

Ahhhh oh my goodness, hello 2018! Anyone else just as stoked as I am?! I always love the idea of a fresh start whether I’m trying to change something or not. This year feels like a new beginning with endless opportunities. I have a good feeling about the next 12 months – how about you?!

There are so many things I’d like to accomplish in the next year for not only myself but my blog too! I thought I’d share what’s been on my mind lately as well as my plans for the future!

Blogging Goals

My blog goals are pretty simple. I want to learn more about my audience (i.e focus more on trends and what others are interested in), invest in a new lens or camera for better photography, and find a way to help other influencers grow! If I can accomplish those three things in 2018, I’ll be happy!

Of course there are smaller things on my mind too like learning how to shoot portraits better and make my Instagram embody more of me instead of product shots. But I feel like those are always on my mind!

Back To School

The biggest goal this year is to get back into school. I loved attending college and felt like I had a purpose for getting out of bed in the morning. I miss learning and educating myself in a structured setting – something I never thought I’d miss. I’m in this funky part of life where I don’t know what to do next and I’m hoping this new college endeavor will help me unravel something great.

Buying A Home

The next thing on my list is buying a home. My husband and I have thought about this for a while and since he’s returning from his deployment soon, now is the perfect time for us to buy. Despite the cold winter weather, we’re hoping to find a home we like fast and close on it quick. When we both want something, we do everything in our power to get it. Doesn’t matter what stands in our way. The pre-approval is official and we’ve already been eyeing some options. Fingers crossed it all falls into place!

Travel Often

This upcoming year I’d love to travel more or just as much as I did in 2017. I went to Florida twice, Texas, Indiana, and Cuba just to name a few! My husband and I already have a weekend trip to Minnesota in March planned but I’m thinking there will be many more trips ahead. A couple in particular I’d like to see include New York and Canada!

My resolutions sound incredibly easy to accomplish when typed on the internet! Let’s hope I’ll be able to check off each thing on this list next year! What do you want to accomplish in 2018?! Leave a comment down below to share your thoughts!
