Why Date Nights Are Important

When I got married to my husband, part of me thought our relationship would change. I knew plenty of couples who warned me of marriage because to some…marriage meant more responsibility, accountability, and planning. Friends told us we’d forget about making time for one another and that date nights would slowly slip away. One year of being married later, I can vouch to say all of those things were untrue!

Yes, marriage is hard work and sometimes the hubs and I lose track of what’s going on around us. That doesn’t mean our relationship isn’t strong or moving at a slower pace than before. In fact, we’ve made a bigger effort than ever to make sure our time together is well spent. Which is what led me to write this post!

Time To Talk

Sometimes the only time I have to talk with my husband about important life details is when we’re out to dinner. Get off your phone when you’re with each other and speak. Plan for your next vacation, talk about the bills you have due for the week, or just ask questions about each other’s day!

Experiencing New Things

One of the best things about “date days” is finding new restaurants to try or fun experiences. A relaxing couple hours with your spouse or loved one makes all the difference if you’re always on the go and away. Learn something new together, go on an adventure to a new place, or find an activity you two typically don’t do as a couple!

We recently discovered a new restaurant in our area that offers special brunch on Sunday afternoons. It was quiet, tasty, and we decided to splurge on a sit-down place that offered new flavors! A date idea you might enjoy with your significant other might be a night out at a restaurant grand opening or any grand opening for that matter! Stepping out of your comfort zone can be a good thing!

Giving Undivided Attention

Circling back to having time to talk. It’s equally as important to be giving each other undivided attention, free of distractions. Some of the things I’m referring to is the phone, T.V, or work duties. All of that needs to go out out the window on date nights!

Listening

We can all guess that when we speak, we want others to listen. Make sure you’re really taking in the conversation between you and your significant other. What’s the point of going on a date if one person is zoned out the entire time? This is why most of the “dates” my husband and I go on consist more of a social atmosphere rather than let’s say…a movie!

Even though life has been crazy lately, I wouldn’t want to do it with anyone else. Getting a little sappy in this post so if you made it to the end, thank you! I hope you find the value in date nights like I do!

Cuba Travel Diary

Surprise!

I’m in Cuba for a week enjoying the warm sun, ocean breeze, and unbelievable views.

My travels started off in Chicago where I flew out of O’Hare International Airport and into Fort Lauderdale for a night (a long night might I add). After sleeping on the airport tiles and five cups of coffee later, it was finally time for me to board the flight that would take me straight to my island destination. A quick jet over was nearly a hop, skip, and a jump – the flight to Cuba lasted only an hour and a half! I was very surprised it didn’t take longer and couldn’t believe how fast the plane went!

Anyways, this trip has been a once in a lifetime experience and although it’s not over yet…I wanted to make sure I kept all of you updated with a few fun photos! Here are some of my favorites from exploring around. There hasn’t been much to do other than snorkeling, eating, and soaking up this amazing weather! Sounds just absolutely terrible right?! Do I have to go back to Chicago?!

Waffles fruit and hashbrowns for breakfast

One of the first things we did on this trip was grab the perfect brunch. As you can see from the photo, I went all out. I definitely was not going to hold back on all the good stuff this spot had to offer. I started with this plate and went back for seconds, thirds, and yes even an early morning desert. Topped my “breakfast” off with some cheesecake bites! Needless to say, I ate good!

Little crab in the rocks

Caves on vacation in Cuba

There were a ton of tiny crabs and unique sea creatures at the beaches we visited. It was also super cool to climb into these rock structures and just explore. I sat here for about an hour searching for shells, coral, and sea glass to bring back home.

I definitely got pushed out of my comfort zone with snorkeling. Jelly fish and sea urchins were things I did not want to encounter. Alhough I tried to stray away, the little guys slowly made their way near my path. So scary!

Iguana in the trees in Cuba vacation

Taking rides through some of the mountains were where I spotted lot’s of iguanas. This one decided to chill in the tree tops. They act like dogs and are definitely not afraid of people whatsoever.

Bad and boujee sweatshirt on vacation in cuba

Long days out and about make me so tired. At the end of each adventure I’ve looked forward to throwing on comfy clothes and watching the waves from our room. This trip has made be feel extra bad and boujee + peep my sweatshirt from Shop Abby Lee! It’s extremely comfortable and has been my go-to for traveling lately. Like I said above, I still can’t believe I’m actually here, in Cuba! What is your dream vacation?! Leave a comment below and let me know!

Sweets, Shopping + Coffee

Sweets on treats on coffee and cute home decor?! Yes, please. I have the uncontrollable urge to yell “BRUH” at the top of my lungs because seriously let me tell you how adorable this tiny bakery and boutique is. I know I say this about everything I post on my site but…I’m obsessed.

I guess I should probably tell you where you can find these dime pieces right?! Downtown Grayslake (hidden in the Lake County, IL area) is the residing location of both these amazing places. Cacao Sweets & Treats is a bakery filled with cupcakes, cookies, breads, delicious coffees, and so much more! The old-fashioned, rustic, yet elegant decor resembles boards pulled straight out of Pinterest. The floors, the seating, the calligraphy – every detail is simply put, pretty.

On the opposite end of the building, around an alley, is the equally stylish boutique filled with home decor and gifts. Blacksmith & Co. is a recent addition to this little town but it definitely doesn’t seem to have trouble fitting in. You can see the correlation between the bakery and the owner’s vision for the store. Each are unique in their own way but have similar characteristics such as natural elements like plants, woods, and antique style furnishings. This spot will definitely be on my list to visit during the Holiday season!

Here are a few photos just in case you want a feel of what they have to offer…

Cute huh?! These are the November vibes I’ve been looking for. I wanna know, what’s your favorite boutique, coffee shop, or small town destination?! Leave a comment below telling me where you’ve been loving to visit!
