I’ve found heaven on earth ladies and gentlemen and it’s called Owl and Lark. Located in the La Grange (Chicagoland) area this cute little spot is the perfect combination of quick bites and sit down staples. After seeing tons of hype about this place on social media, I knew I had to make my way towards it.
The menu at Owl and Lark really took me by surprise. They had salads, smoothies and bowls, dairy-free options, and a variety of different breads to choose from for your avocado toast. Which by the way, is the bomb diggity.
I ordered a 16 oz matcha latte with oat milk (considerably my new obsession). Oat milk gives the drink a natural flavor. To me, it’s like an upgraded version of regular milk. It was light and flavorful + the perfect amount of sweetness. Totally frothy and blended together nicely. I loved it!
To compliment my hot beverage, I also splurged on the pumpernickel bread avocado toast. The avocado wasn’t too overwhelming – it was evenly spread across and topped with pickled onions, red pepper flakes, arugula, and watermelon radish. The watermelon radish atop everything was, to be honest, a bit much. I was intimidated at first but after a few bites, that fear was gone and filled with flavor!
Besides the wonderful food and drinks this place had, I also just have to briefly touch on the atmosphere. This gem was bright, filled with character, and modern with a tiny amount of rustic flair. If my personality and style was a coffee shop, it would be this.
Owl and Lark, thanks for creating such an adorable place for my hubby and I to have lunch. Everything about our experience was perfect and I’ll 100% be back for more! Friends, if you live in the Chicagoland area, put this spot on your list to visit! I promise you will not regret it!
This past weekend I had the pleasure of visiting Cafe Robey in the Wicker Park area. Located on the corner of North Milwaukee Ave and West North Ave, this spot is a place you won’t forget about.
Modern American cuisine with a twist is how I’d describe this gem. My first indulgence was the avocado toast with added egg. You can also add crab meat for an additional charge. There had to have been at least two whole avocados on my toast. A thick layer was spread across + pickled red onions, chili flakes, and espelette oil. My mouth still waters about this.
My husband ordered the Cuban sandwich. Which personally, I’m not usually a fan of but boy was this delicious – pork loin & shoulder, gruyère, avocado, red onion, mustard alongside some spiced potato chips. Again, didn’t think I’d enjoy a dish like this but surprisingly I couldn’t stop reaching over the table to sneak bites.
Lastly, the chef brought out duck hash (I’ve never had duck before so I was very eager to try). The meat was lean and flavorful, almost a melt-in-your-mouth type. The potatoes were seasoned perfectly – not too salty at all or overdone. I think the egg atop everything too made this menu item THAT much better.
Overall, this place was a total win and I’ll definitely be visiting again. The atmosphere, the people, and the menu has me head-over-heels. Cheers to brunch lovers!
Cold winter mornings are the best and also the worst. I swear, this Chicago weather has made my skin do a complete 180. With temperatures in the twenties and on some days single digits, it’s no surprise my poor face is as dry as it is.
I’ve been searching for a good scrub or skin care product to help with this but nothing I’ve tested has done the job well enough…until now! I recently got the chance to try out a moisturizer from Aloette (aka a brand I’ve been entirely obsessed with) that seems to be restoring my skin back to normal. Their mud face mask, setting spray, and mascara have rocked my world so it was only about time I tried their maximum moisture complex product. Yay for hydration!
It’s anti-aging and helps fight premature wrinkles or fine lines.
A couple of the main ingredients include aloe vera and shea butter to make for a silky smooth blank face canvas.
The consistency is more of a cream and thicker than many other moisturizer’s I’ve tried. You can actually feel product soaking into the skin.
I typically apply this once in the morning before applying my makeup and once in the evening during my bed-time routine. After the last week or so, I can already see a true difference in the way my skin looks and feels. Once this jar runs out, you bet I’ll be buying another!
